VETERANS MEMORIAL BRIDGE

The Gilmartin St bridge (The 3rd bridge) was replaced by a new bridge in November 2007 and was renamed the Veterans Memorial Bridge. The official dedication for the bridge was on November 11, 2007. But the ceremonial dedication was held on March 14, 2008 due to constant inclimate weather. Archbald Mayor Edward Fairbrother should be commended for organizing the festivities for the dedication. The dedication was most impressive. The distinction of being the first vehicle across the bridge was given to Cpl Herman Hinkle, a former U S Marine. His vehicle was a wheelchair. Cpl Hinkle witnessed the demolition and removal of the old bridge and the complete construction of the new bridge.
